Special Industry Event
Max Zehrt, director, institutional relations, Canada, for Sustainalytics, has been added to the line-up of speakers for the Benefits and Pensions Monitor Meetings & Events ‘ESG Update.’ He joins Catherine Thrasher, managing director, global risk solutions Canada, at BNY Mellon Technology Solutions; Christine Girvan, managing director and head of Canadian sales at MFS Investment Management; and Michael Long, senior policy analyst with the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO).
Zehrt is responsible for developing its institutional relationships in Canada, helping prospective clients determine the responsible investment solutions that best fit their needs.
Thrasher is responsible for overseeing performance and risk analytics services and operations for BNY Mellon’s Asset Servicing clients in Canada. With 18 years of investment industry experience, all in performance and risk, she has been with BNY Mellon Global Risk Solutions (GRS) and its predecessor companies since 1998.
Girvan oversees the sales team at MFS, co-ordinating with the investment management, relationship management, consultant relations, and marketing groups. She joined MFS in 2010 after spending nine years at ABN AMRO Asset Investment Management Canada Ltd. (subsequently Fortis) where she held the positions of chief executive officer, head of North American sales, and vice-president of global investments.
The session will examine the current mood towards ESG in pension and investment circles, look at the challenges sponsors have faced in meeting the government’s requirements, and discuss what impact it has or will have on pension fund investment in Ontario. As well, Long will provide an update on what plan administrators in Ontario have been doing for the past 11 months since the regulatory requirement for pension plans to disclose whether they incorporate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors into their statement of investment policies and procedures (SIP&Ps) was established.
